Gary McFadden

The Dodge City Family YMCA has announced the appointment of Gary McFadden as its new Sports Director, bringing nearly 12 years of experience in coaching, youth development and YMCA leadership.

Originally from Columbia, South Carolina, McFadden began his coaching journey in high school while playing varsity football and coaching a local Pop Warner team. That early experience sparked his passion for mentoring young athletes and helping them grow both on and off the field.

McFadden’s background includes coaching at the youth and high school levels, beginning as an offensive line coach in a Pop Warner program before moving into varsity coaching at a private school in Lexington, South Carolina. He was later promoted to Junior Varsity Head Football Coach, where he led the program to its first conference championship. Most recently, McFadden served as Sports Director at the YMCA in Willmar, Minnesota.

Throughout his career, McFadden has emphasized youth development, positive culture and strong relationships. His approach focuses on teaching fundamentals, building confidence and creating environments where young people can develop character alongside athletic skills.

“We are excited to welcome Gary to Dodge City and to our Y team,” said Jackie Gaucin, CEO of the Dodge City Family YMCA. “His past success at another YMCA - combined with his proven ability to build strong relationships with staff, volunteers and community partners - will be a tremendous strength to our YMCA and our sports programs. Gary brings energy, experience and a passion for connecting people to purpose, and he will play an important role in helping us continue to be a place where everyone feels they belong. His leadership will also support our ‘No Place Like This Place’ campaign.”

Members of the YMCA hiring committee also noted McFadden’s strong fit for the role.

“During the interview process, Gary stood out due to his previous experience as a Y Sports Director and his success in growing programs,” said Holly Deutsch, YMCA Hiring Committee Member. “His background working with diverse populations and his innovative ideas will be a strong asset to our community.”

McFadden says, “The Y is the place for me because its mission aligns with both my passion and my faith.”
